This project is about much more than one property or one proposed arena.
It could affect how residents, visitors, convention attendees, hotel employees and sports fans move through one of the most heavily traveled parts of Las Vegas.
Drivers arriving on I 15 could exit at Russell Road, reach the proposed new intersection at Las Vegas Boulevard, then continue east toward Haven Street.
The proposed route would continue north using Haven Street and Koval Lane toward Tropicana Avenue.
Instead of directing so much traffic through the Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, some motorists could have another choice.
The project announcement reports traffic volumes approaching 100,000 vehicles per day at Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard.
It also states NDOT informally estimates the proposed new Strip intersection could decrease Tropicana traffic by an estimated 22%.

According to the project announcement, people traveling from east side hotels such as MGM Grand could potentially reach Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas Boulevard, I 15 or Allegiant Stadium without using the Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard intersection.
For Las Vegas residents, this could mean another route to work.
For hotel guests, another way between major destinations.
For convention attendees, another connection through the resort corridor.
For sports fans, another way into and out of an increasingly busy part of Las Vegas.
Another important part of the proposal involves construction.
Most of the proposed road would be built on land not previously used for roads.
According to the project announcement, construction would have virtually no impact on existing traffic.
The entire project is estimated to take approximately 18 months to complete.
